Sometimes it's not the em dash, honestly. 😂 What gives them away the most is that unlike non-ficcers, fanfic writers tend to have this cadence in their sentences. They don't sound formal and straightforward, and they don't sound overcorrected like AI. Storytellers weave their sentences differently. 😊

I remember my teacher saying that I should use my friend’s essays as an example to write mine. My friend looked back at me as if our teacher had hexed her cuz I’ve been writing most of my life. Our next assignment was more in line with creative writing and our teacher said out loud, “OH, THE PROBLEM WAS THE STRUCTURE”. 😂
