Dean wanted permission from Sam to pass away and that Sam will continue to be alright and do better for himself. Sam did the same thing as he refused to pass away though he wanted to when the time came… He was waiting to know the same to his son and his son told him it’s okay. Both wanted permission and closure. Dean asked for Sam to let him pass away. Sam would’ve done anything to get Dean back but Sam understood it’s what Dean wanted, accepted and decided. Sam also would’ve taken his own life if Dean didn’t make him tell him it’s okay. Dean usually refused to repeat himself and get straight to the point often times but Dean pleads with Sam. It’s okay had meant several important words for Dean. Sam already continued in trauma and Dean. Dean lived his life and he wanted to be gone when the time happened again. Through the series Dean passed away 111/112 times. He chose his final time and Sam passed away 8 times. Dean choice wasn’t reckless of anything and he begged Sam to continue to live and filled with empathy for his brother in the end. He wasn’t afraid to pass away when begging his brother. He wasn’t afraid for passing on but was afraid for his brother and he didn’t want to continue to go on anymore. I wrote this rant because I seen comments shame Sam in other comment sections for not reviving Dean but Dean isn’t even afraid of dying.

I actually think it’s accurate death because he always wanted to go that way so it’s fitting.. yeah sure it was sad but think about it .. Dean was never the type to settle down and make a family

to anyone that thinks this is a bad ending you did not watch the show they didn't have plot armor anymore from Chuck. so him dying like this makes total sense while it might be bittersweet it's how it is 😁

Fun fact. Dean's final death is the same as Sam's first. Stabbed through the back and held by their brother.
