CKLA is the worst program ever! Science of reading isn’t a program. Kids need a melding of literature, a strong phonics program, with direct instruction of skills and strategies. That’s just good teaching!

I LOVE that you ended with “off you go”! I would like to commend you for speaking up and out! Your board really needs to listen up and make a shift! I hope you get the change your students deserve. Perhaps (and this part is sarcasm of course) someone needs to provide a basic 12 minute (and absolutely no more) mini lesson on how they should show up in a readerly or writerly way to make this change!

Replace Lucy with FPC and I could give this same speech at our board meeting. We replaced Lucy with FPC, trading garbage for more expensive garbage.

I have been teaching for 19 years. I truly don’t understand why they are making teaching reading so difficult. These programs are getting impossible to teach. My scores were just as good 19 years ago.

As a principal I fought our district and wouldn’t send my teachers to this crazy curriculum, I could tell it wouldn’t work so years later I was right

Yes! I teacher kinder and I also have my masters in Ed with a cert as a reading specialist! All of my study was the science of reading! I teach using the science of reading and 95% are prof or advanced! The 5% are receiving spec ed services.

THANK YOU!!! I was vilified for using phonics and speaking out against this program when I was teaching SPED. It failed so many kids.
