in my maori world... "takiwatanga" is the word we use for "autism" ... it means "in his, her, or their, own time and space"

His mannerisms and facial expressions remind me of my middle kid (12).
He's verbal, and not quite as affected, but he mixes norwegian and english when he speaks.

I love when he shakes his head waiting for you to talk but then he realized you aren’t and then he says something.

Does Ethan watch these? I'm wondering if that has helped him make the connections and become more vocal?
I know very little about autism.
I love Ethan, and I'm always so happy when he shows up in my feed.

Does autism run in your family? Or was his diagnosis out of the blue?

Not shocking at all ! They told us that my sister will never speak and she suddenly not only started speaking but she fully recovered after 21 years and you could not even tell that she ever had autism. We did this with animal therapy and a lot of patience😁

This is amazing. He wasn’t ready before and now he is, to do these things, and you gave him the time and help he needed until he was ready. (Both mine are autistic too, we have things they are and aren’t ready for so I understand)

My nephew was very much like Ethan. He was almost non verbal until 4 yrs old. Now he is 30 with a full time job, living on his own and paying for things himself. Ethan is smart. He can do it!! ❤️

I’ve worked with many kids who were diagnosed with autism and adults as well and it is truly remarkable to see how they exceed everyone’s expectations or limits placed on them 👏👏 These boys are awesome. 😎
