@itsmrskelly: When I first wrote this I had no idea how many people this would trigger. It seems out of thousands upon thousands of comments, an overwhelming majority of people believe, with a lot of their heart, that they do good things and get bad things in return. Some gave love, money, kindness, and feel they were met with hate, struggle and disrespect. But life is not about an immediate answer to a question. What I mean by that is what you put out in this world is not always going to have an instant response that matches the energy you put into anything initially. I’ve thought I was in love only to be wrong later. It’s okay to be wrong! It’s okay to not be so certain of your position! It’s okay to take a step back. You could be kind now, but maybe you made some tough choices in the past that have come back to teach you a new lesson. We are not always prepared for what is coming, and it certainly can often feel unfair. But I promise you that is a surface level way of looking at things. Look even at your struggles with grace and the chance to understand something new - even if it wrecks you. Just because you love someone doesn’t mean they’ll love you back. Just because you’re kind doesn’t mean you’ll get that in return. Don’t ever give expecting to receive. Your gifts, your love and your kindness are not yours to keep. Even the things we purchase here are not ours forever. We are only ever borrowing everything for a time. Do not be so set in stone that you crack at the first sign of hardship.
