The whole point of the original movie is that Nani was struggling and she finally got support from stitch and David and the aliens. Stitch becomes another older sibling for lilo taking some of the burden off of Nani.

The whole point of the OG lilo and stitch was Nani not wanting to give up lilo cuz their family meant so much to them. Giving her up at the end just goes against all of that.
