Here’s a little guide on how we do bokashi! Bokashi is so easy to do, and great for those with little space too because it speeds up the composting process: bokashi is a composting catalyst and enabler. You can put any food in the bokashi bin, including meat, eggs, dairy & cooked food. 🌱 You need two bins so that the full one can ferment for a couple of weeks before adding it to the compost. 🌱 Layer some cardboard on the bottom to stop food getting stuck to it. 🌱 Add your food to the bokashi bin with a handful of bokashi bran. We collect food over 1-2 days in a little bin to avoid constantly opening the bokashi bin. Opening the bin disturbs the process. 🌱 When the bin is full, leave it to ferment for a couple of weeks. 🌱 You may need to drain the liquid (which is an excellent plant feed when diluted) a couple of times. 🌱 Add to the compost bin along with some brown material such as cardboard, straw or wood chips. Little tip: bones can go in the compost too & they compost more quickly if they are softened by boiling first. Make some stock with your bones before adding to the bokashi bins. Homemade stock is full of goodness too! #bokashi #compost #gyo #growyourown #growyourownfood #selfsufficient #homestead #smallholding #garden #lovegardening #kitchengarden #veggarden #raisedbeds
