I don’t think goals count as earthly attachments. It’s not really a worldly possession since in Zaheers opinion, it doesn’t hinder his spiritual growth or liberation which earthly possessions do (like Pli)

I don’t think it’s really an attachment bc you see in the fourth season he just move on and wven helped her get over the poison that easily without any conditions shows he didn’t care that much about it like it was a goal but he was not obsessed with it like maybe kuvira about uniting the earth kingdom that she was willing to kill batar jr for it

Actually, he isn’t doing this to harm Korra at all, it’s not really personal, he is trying to end the avatar cycle, which is a spiritual force. Aka destroying the avatar cycle is a spiritual attachment rather than an earthly one.

He does’t need this victory he wants it, he needed her and once she was gone he had nothing to chase nothing binding him to this world. Thats why when he lost he accepted it and refused to fight back, he simply doesn’t care anymore. He tried and failed what more can you do? cry about it? scream? punch something? whats the point?

It's not an attachment, it's like a key mission, his duty to introduce all citizens of the four nations and Republic city to true freedom through anarchy, an attachment is something you can't do without, something that defines a person's life itself and their being/identity itself, spouses, animal companions, for zaheer it's his girlfriend PʼLI, that's his attachment. Just thought you should know this so they don't start calling everything plot holes.
