I’m in the UK so have only ever seen clips of SNL on social media but from what I’ve seen it’s goppingly bad.

I think in much the way that comedy panel shows haven't taken off in the US that the SNL isn't something that would work in the UK.

SNL is extremely unfunny to the English, that type of American humour just wouldn't translate well

A live sketch show probably wouldn’t work in the UK, the UK has produced some of the best sketch shows of all time, but they’re all meticulously planned and done with multiple takes, the SNL format would just fall flat, also British people watch things live much less these days, so watching it on catch up would defeat the point

Yeah SNL just doesn't feel funny to a UK comedy fan. There's a reason we don't have much Sketch comedy now, although I'd fully support The Fast Show and Goodness Gracious Me coming back

He’s just being polite, but we don’t find much SNL funny, it’s not a dig at American humour but we kinda have our own unique version of it, it’s hard to explain unless you’re British. SNL been going for like 50 years and it’s never caught on, we even tried our own version of ‘Late Night with….’ And it just bombed completely, even though we have similar shows like Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton, it’s inflicted with proper British humour. SNL from the outside seems more loud and obnoxious to what we’re used to but obviously it’s a huge success in the US and launched a thousand careers of global stars of today so it has obvious influence.

The funniest skit from snl was the more cowbell other then that it’s been pretty questionable imo but that’s ok Brit humour and USA humour is different we don have to have the same stuff and that’s ok

I don’t get why this would fail? In a country of 70 million people, you’re telling me they can’t assemble a cast of ~12 funny people and ~15 funny writers and make a half decent show? Sketch comedy is ingrained in their culture too

David :
We Brits have always wondered what the appeal of SNL is. We assume people laugh because it’s SNL and so must be funny. But when you come to it fresh you see it’s just childish stuff. I don’t give it a year in the U.K.

Hard agree. I’d rather see British comics on the American version.
