I believe that the reason men go for the much more “effective”/ “efficient” approach, is due to them not wanting to deal with the aftermath of a failed attempt. Women failing to succeed would be met with compassion and care, ergo there’s no need for a “guarantee”. Men on the other hand would be ridiculed, “he couldn’t even do that right” is something I’d imagine be uttered

Couldn’t that also be a sign that men are more serious about ending it? Sometimes attempting this thing is a cry for help and deep down we want it to fail. Other times we are done and just want it to end.

Men are not to blame. The patriarchy is to blame.

the concept of men being more successful at it than woman shows a deep psychological difference between men and women. Women have just as much freedom to choose the same methods.

What about in the UK where we don’t have access to means like that but it’s still 3 times higher? I lost my best friend to it and spent years asking for a reason for it and never got it but i don’t think it’s gotta do with nature of the act

Thing is if a man fails people are not going to care. If a man is not married and does not have kids after a certain age there is nobody to care. Everyone will want to come support the woman.

To my male counterparts that are shallow: it is patriarchal because violence is a characteristic. Men have built societies with violence, it should be no surprise that we use it to accomplish… other means. The statistic isn’t indicative of efficacy but of conformity. To accept violence so easily and in such awful circumstance, is truly an evil of patriarchal mores. So my fellow men, don’t argue that men are simple better at it, that is gross not only to women, but to yourselves. Be kind and express what you feel, not argue, express.

Here is a more relevant statistic to what is going on with men generally. Boys die by drowning twice as often as girls. Patriarchy is a poor label. We have a societal gender bias when it come to boys and by and large most women support it

Way to tell me that I’m a failure. I don’t regret failing, but I don’t appreciate getting called out for attempting less successful means. I was a child, I didn’t know

The narrative that it’s an epidemic on the male side is a wrong. The rates of reported loneliness for male and female are pretty much the same. The huge disparity is in romantic satisfaction, male side.

Violence is a weird term here, I mean a gun can be used for violence and that seems to be what your referring to but using a gun on yourself is not violent it’s just more lethal like a noose rather than women drinking wine and taking pills which has the same end goal but is just less effective

Say what you want, but it boils down to the society built by men. Other men, sure, but men nonetheless, that’s why it’s an issue of patriarchy. If you genuinely wanna say it’s women’s fault for men’s higher rate, than you shouldn’t even be having the discussion.

You’re so close to getting the point. Why do you think men tend to resort to those more extreme methods? Could it be because men suffer more from mental health issues?

beyond the topic of "attempting" I think there's just a cottage industry around lying to men about why and how they feel alienated from the patriarchal stories that we've been told about ourselves and it contributes to a deeply poisoned well that young men drink from. "equality feels like oppression to the privileged" and etc. mens mental health is different and subtle but insofar that it's reflective of the myths we're fed about gender. but tbh u know all this
