A servant said to ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn, “O son of the Messenger of Allah, has the time not come for your sorrow to end?” He replied, “Woe to you! The prophet Jacob had twelve sons, and when Allah hid one of them from him his eyes turned white from weeping, his hair turned gray from grief, and his back bent under anguish—though his son was still alive in this world. As for me, I have looked upon my father, my brother, my uncle, and seventeen members of my household lying slain around me; how, then, could my grief ever end?” بحار الأنوار ، العلامة المجلسي : 46/63.
