📍Athens, Greece: €30-70/day Athens needs no introduction, but I think many people don’t realize it’s a budget-friendly destination. There are many hostel options starting from €15/night. You are in luck if you are a young EU citizen, as you can enter most attractions for free. Students/young people from outside the EU can also get discounts. I recommend visiting in shoulder season (spring or fall) if you can. 📍Tartu, Estonia: €35-60/day Tartu is the second biggest city in Estonia, located about 3 hours by train from Tallinn. Tartu is not a very popular backpacking destination yet, so hostel options are limited, but you can find apartments from €20 per person. I loved the food in Tartu. Many good quality restaurants had meals for under €10, and lunch deals were even cheaper! 📍Warsaw, Poland: €25-50/day Warsaw is one of the more affordable European capitals. There are so many free things to see in this big city, and the cheapest hostels start from just over €10/night. I highly recommend trying out the “milk bars” for food, as they are traditional and have meals starting from just a few €. 📍Porto, Portugal: €30-60/day Porto is such an underrated city compared to Lisbon, and it’s also just a bit more affordable in my opinion. You can find some great affordable places to eat, and hostels start from only €15/night. There are also many great free viewpoints and other things to do, such as going to the beach by the local bus. I recommend visiting in shoulder season (spring or fall) if you can. 📍Vilnius, Lithuania: €30-60/day Vilnius, as well as the other Baltic capitals, is a great weekend trip destination on a budget. The city is very easy to get around on foot. You can find many hostels for around €20/night. I recommend combining Vilnius with other Baltic cities, such as Riga, Kaunas, Tallinn, or Tartu, as you can travel between these easily by train or bus.
