See I disagree about Overcompensating. I felt like, at least in terms of story believability, Overcompensating was one of the most realistic representations I’ve ever seen. Like as a gay man I related to it more than any other gay shows or movies I’ve seen. Maybe cause I felt like I had a similar story minus football lol but I often cringe at a lot of gay shows/movies cause it’s so “straight washed” (either tries TOO hard to be gay, or just puts gay people in straight situations, with not much in between) but Overcompensating felt like it was actually made for me 😭

I’m a gay who loves overcompensating. To me it feels like it really roasts the straight men and is nuanced with the queer characters. Seems like queer for queer shows are always sad and burying the gays. We deserve comedy!

Queer As Folk is NOT for straight people. Watching it when it came out in 2000-05 it felt so ahead of its time for a show that spoke out for so many issues the gay community faced in society, when it wasn’t okay to talk about. 😭

I watched Overcompensating out of curiosity and will say it was funnier than I expected! The way it was filmed reminded me of grownish despite it also taking place in college, but the writing is a million times better.
