this is a bad ending imo, Maelle slowly turning into Aline, literally a god painter that make Verso and others a puppets.. soon becoming the next Paintress.. Verso ending is a neautral ending imo, Verso knew the world and him are not real.. Maelle painting power is the one Verso want which he tried to gommage Maelle so that Maelle can create a new canvas with him in it.

Why can’t nobody understand Maelle? She’s hates her life in the real world. She has a chance to live in the canvas and can stay with her brother. You want to tell me that if u had the chance to stay with someone who passed away you wouldn’t do it?

Verso deserved the punishment from Maelle's ending, he consciously manipulated many expeditions to help him erase everything they loved and he knew it well from the beginning, He betrayed poor Lune three times in a single expedition.

Objectively, Mealle's ending is emotionally unhealthy and irresponsible. It's like using AI and simulations to bring the dead back to life and then gas lighting yourself into believing it's real. Denial is one thing but delusion is another.

The reason why Verso plays that piano piece at the end is to signify that the cycle restarts. You are back to the beginning or the "menu theme". Not canon though.

imo, I see the whole canvas as a metaphor for hard drugs. People often use drugs to escape the hardships of reality. Maelle is addicted to this world cause it's the only place that makes her happy, and avoids acceptance of versos death. while everyone around her is hurting seeing her this way, she believes this is the only way to truly "live" life. this game really is depressing 😭😭

I genuinely believed in maelle, when she wanted to help verso in finding a new sense of life or a reason to live. At least recover the time that was stolen from the both of them. But I DIDN'T expect maelle repaint over him and kinda leave a husk of what use to be verso. Once seeing all that, I knew it wasn’t right and I felt betrayed. But seeing my boy gustave again happy with Sophie, I didn’t know what to think anymore. For sure Renoir foresaw this when talking to maelle before leaving the canvas and well “family is complicated”

I hate to say this because i love Mealle and all of the characters we meet along the journey but… Verso’s ending is indeed the only right choice… to break the cycle of grief. Even though i hate to admit it..

I accept the endings, but both ignored the sentient beings with agency that the Dessendre family created. Before all the family drama, they failed in their duty of care. Still a masterpiece of a game, though. 1000/10.
