I still wear the Simms Gore Tex waders, and use the Sage fly rod I bought 30 years ago. Broke the bank at the time, but they have both stood the test of time.

Get a used rod, 100$. Pfuelgar medalist from eBay, 15$. At that point you can afford brand new nice line and outfish this setup

My fly set up is over 1000$ and I have understood you get what you pay for like big time, rod and line are very important for a good setup.
