The sound of a palm tree with @Artlist.io 🌴 This sound was recorded as part of a project in Tuvalu, in collaboration with Artlist. We were sent to this island nation, slowly disappearing due to rising sea levels, to document its culture, daily life and soundscapes. On my last day in Tuvalu, I explored a deserted island. While walking along the beach, a sound caught my attention: something that stood out from the waves, the birds and the wind. It came from a palm tree. It wasn’t the usual rustling of leaves, it was something more vibrant. The palm fronds were vibrating in the wind, probably because of how they were positioned. Palms are a common part of Tuvalu’s local flora and they’re everywhere on the islands but I had never heard one sound quite like this. I stopped, listened and placed my contact microphone. I was able to capture the sound clearly, isolating it from the surrounding noise. This recording, like many others from Tuvalu, is now available on Artlist.io. It was a deeply human experience and I feel grateful to have been part of this expedition to record the sounds, voices and life of Tuvalu.
