@mouseabolition: to be clear i did just enough research on the movie to make sure what i’m saying is correct but i simply refuse to consume a feature film’s worth of propaganda. #kennarambles #liloandstitch

all.of.this... also i know people who litteraly were sent to Hawaii by their university to study marine biology. Because that's where the ocean is?

THIS IS WHAT I WAS SAYING THIS IS LITERALLY THE GLORIFICATION OF CPS…. A lot of social workers don’t even know the kids they work with that well, let alone the guardians

As a Navajo this movie is making me crash out so hard. I know how much damage Pocahontas did, and the little girls growing up loving it are in their 30s now. This movie is, imo way more dangerous and damaging!!! and the damage will be affecting us 30 years from now!

A lot of people are like “but she got a full ride to the uni in California” as if the people who made the movie couldn’t easily make her get a full ride to a Hawaiian uni instead. None of those people are examining why that particular decision was made and the implications behind it. It’s exhausting.

They made the moral of the story "Indigenous folks should surrender their kids to an occupying force and leave their valuable homelands to go assimilate." I'm the oldest sister of a Choctaw residential school family, and this is so horrifying and infuriating.

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 thank you!!! That has been one of my biggest concerns!! How willing people are to buy into the illusions of fostercare being a “temporary good solution”….(tbh I am bias as I personally experienced the state of Hawaii’s foster care)

I appreciate this take so much, it’s wild to see takes that treat the live action character of Nani like a real person (“what did you want her to do? She wanted to go to school and still gets to visit Lilo every night”) rather than a character that was written by real people with private interests of their own

I refuse to watch the remake as boycott. Lilo and Stitch holds a special place in my heart and this remake hits me hard (almost as much as all those sequels with no Lilo all over Asia) Plus I support the Hawaiian Sovereignty Movement from a distance

The original film had Lilo taking pictures of tourists like they’re the tourist attractions that they treat her and other indigenous Hawaiians. Also the deleted scene where LILO tricks the tourists into evacuating the beach. Those scenes were funny but poignant critics.

She has a portal gun she uses to visit Lilo, which is supposed to make things better, but by that logic she could have stayed in Hawaii and used to portal gun to go to her lectures in California.

I saw an ad outside of a food place saying you can “win a trip to Hawaii” with an image of the “live action” Stitch and it made me so sad and angry

It is WILD that this film comes from the same company that gave us the speech about blatant propaganda like a month ago in Andor 😑

way too many people seem to think just because lilo is with people she knows its ok but shes STILL in the system the second they deem them unfit she's gone "but Nani needed a support system" the og DID THAT without getting the government involved? the main villain on both sides in the og is the government trying to take people away from where they belong

I've been saying for years that it seemed like Disney had phased out Lilo from Lilo and stitch related merch and stuff as a way to avoid addressing what she represented in the original film and ig this remake was their way of finding a way around it completely :/

The production comment is so spot on because the original animated movie was made without a lot of input from higher ups! It was made in Florida and that’s (to me) one of the reasons there is more social commentary in the animated one compared to the live action. Plus, people keep talking about how UCSD is a higer ranked school for marine biology which wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) have mattered to Nani.

The amount of parents that get told “give up one child to CPS or we’ll be taking all of your children” is incredibly high, and to make Nani give up a Lilo to CPS like she didn’t have a movie full of people twisting her arm makes me want to punch drywall

I’m curious what kind of deal the director made with Disney. He’s taking and owning a lot of the heat for these choices. He’s either naive or is getting more out of this than we know.

The layers of propaganda in this movie can only be missed if you are forcing yourself to not think complexly about anything ... ever As someone from a US Territory 🇵🇷 with degrees in Social Work & Psychology, I've been trying to explain how harmful it is for this movie to sell foster care as a solution instead of a temporary guardianship & have been met with the same 2 answers of "she was left with family" & "it's just a movie", to the point that I think some of them are bots We do guardianship all the time in 🇵🇷 , especially with kids that were born in the States but are sent to the island with extended fam for a couple of years & the government is not involved in it
