As someone who lived off of sponge baths during a natrual disaster, they ABSOLUTELY stunk. A sponge bath just isn't the same as a full wash unfortunately

In U.S. as recently as less than 100 years ago, baths were commonly only once a week. Families often shared bath water. Baths were a lot of work and use of energy.

My dad was born in 1919 in Wheeling, WV in a relatively well-off family. He said that they took sponge baths daily & a regular bath weekly. He said that he didn’t notice people smelling bad, either.
