public college tuition used to be free before Reagan. Reagan’s education advisor, Roger A. Freeman stated, “We are in danger of producing an educated proletariat. That’s dynamite! We have to be selective on who we allow [to go through higher education].”

The problem is not education, it’s capitalism.

College has become this not because the education isn’t important but because higher ed has all been moved to a corporate, profit driven model at the expense of students.

College is absolutely OK for some, but you really need to know exactly what you want to study before you go. The myth of go and figure it out is the most dangerous thing related to college.

I’ve cut timber for 16 years. I get the sentiment. Kids, go to college. I feel like I’m 70. (I’m 35)

It’s a scam in the sense that higher education should be free but I hate the rhetoric that college education isn’t valuable if it’s not gonna make you loads of money. It’s just more capitalist brainrot.

love ya Jesse. that said, college can be and is a great place to expand your education and start a career path. the problem is is that it should be FREE. Education is a right not a privilege. but I'm pleased to be entering a PhD program after all my work!

there's a lot of very necessary, crucial roles in our society that require rigorous higher education, the problem is the cost.

The problem is the capitalistic takeover of education, not college in and of itself 😫 The problem is ppl viewing college as a ticket to a job but not an opportunity for personal growth & cognitive development 😫 The problem is ppl treating their education as a means to an end & not valuing learning for learning’s sake 😫 The problem is the job market & exploitation, not ppl going to college 😫 We are in serious, serious trouble if we continue down this path of anti-intellectualism coupled with brain drain & people overly outsourcing their thinking to AI 🫠

All the information in the books used at universities was paid for by our great grandparents and grandparents taxes to National Laboratories that wrote the books we pay to learn from over decades and generations. That all should be free

college instructor here: only go if you have a goal and that's the way to reach it. if you're under 24, ask your financial aid office about financial independence. IF you qualify, you can get more financial aid, maybe even grants!
