hi! ai researcher and natural language programmer here. you’re okay! this is spooky but not unheard of - the model is hallucinating. when you leave voice mode on but don’t speak, the model will attempt to extract language from the audio - in the absence of spoken word it will hallucinate. it also isn’t crossing wires, but is oriented towards hallucinating in agreement, so you suggested that wires got crossed and it agreed with you in an attempt to successfully “answer your query”

ChatGPT “hallucinates.” That means it gives information confidently that isn’t based on real data. It’s filling in the blanks because it’s trained to generate a response based on patterns. If it has no reference pattern, it can “hallucinate” a response to make sense. In voice mode, it could’ve picked up on a sound and, because it’s an LLM, transcribed ambient noise incorrectly. And also because it’s an LLM and generates responses based on patterns, not facts, it likely generated a hallucinated response.
