This dance derives from ancient sumerian rituals. The movement of the hair is supposed to bring rain and fertility. The carrying of the swords is apotropaic and meant to ward off evil spirits and such.

⋆. the dance of alhacha in Sumerian mythology (ancient iraq) the story of the sacrificial girl (the offering to the Moon God). She usually holds two swords or daggers which she uses during the dance. After exhausting herself and collapsing to the ground with the pounding of drums, she begins to deliver deadly stabs to her body and falls to the ground from fatigue and weariness. Then she is slaughtered and offered as a sacrifice to the Moon God to gain his favor and forgiveness ,, it is a painful expression one of the most agonizing rituals for the most beautiful dance.

Absolutely beautiful dance! I'm surprised to have come across this, because there are somewhat similar dances performed by Haitian women with either daggers or machetes. I've actually seen some of the exact dance moves the woman in this video performed. It's always beautiful to see how similar cultures can be even when so far away from each other.
