Personally, I prefer a slightly wider-than-shoulder-width, neutral grip, with my elbows pointing mostly forward. Step 2: Active Start Begin with your shoulder blades slightly elevated—think shoulders to ears. Sit tall, lean back slightly, and position your body at about a 1 o’clock angle. Step 3: Pulling Motion Engage your lats by driving your shoulders down toward your pockets while slightly bending your elbows. Then, drive your elbows toward your hips. If possible, aim to make contact with the bar on your chest. Step 4: Controlled Descent Slowly return the bar over 2 seconds to the starting position, focusing on feeling a stretch in your lats at the top. Return to the shoulders-to-ears position—like a turtle tucking into its shell.
