and, some/most vendors @ the mkt are buying from other farmers [at retail/auction] who cant be at each indiv market (too much time, inputs, lack of variety for their own table)

People who peddle produce they bought from a grocery distributor have completely saturated our farmers market and pushed out the actual farmers, especially the small hobby farmers. I used to wake up at dawn, get a coffee, and walk around the farmers market on Saturday mornings, but it's rather pointless now. There are only 2 local farms represented at ours these days, and I just buy in to their CSAs and visit their farm stands instead.

Learned couple years ago farmers markets are a scam. When they first started in my area and it was free to set up booths. It was a great way for local farmers to off load some of their produce. How quickly it became booths for crafts and MLM companies. Which drove up the price making it costly for local farms to have booths.

So, what is the point of farmers' markets? They seem like a way to do business with local, small farms. Is there a different goal? Is there a better way to go about it? (I assume the yes answer is yes to both but curious about your take on it.)

This is why I love farm shares. Instead of the farmer having to pack everything up and bring it somewhere to meet customers, we just go right to the farm to grab everything!

I like the farmer’s markets to try the food/treats of locals. It’s more for vibes and I recognize it’s NOT cheaper at all lol

I expect to pay more for food from the farmers market, I’m there for the quality of the produce, and I like to support small local farms. Also, the baked goods!

i haven't found a lot of great produce and stuff at my local market but i do find wonderful cooks and the like making amazing ethnic foods or craft pickles. it's more expensive, but often much more tasty

I was laid off in January and had to cancel my CSA share, but it was an amazing value. Otherwise I buy my chicken and proteins from you or local providers, picking it up. Farmer’s Markets near me are entirely boujee now, and nothing is local.
