I said that one time to my dad and he took me outside and he dumped out the sockets and told me to put them all away. Then he quizzed me on the size of fractions of the sockets. He told me that I may become an engineer or possibly work in construction then fractions will be important. Then he should me blueprints he has to draw before welding/building something.

you aren't just learning fractions, you're learning for the sake of learning so you don't become stagnant once you're out of school. you're learning the skill of learning and you'll need that no matter what you pursue

i used to say the same thing she said until i realized that it’s not about whether you’ll need it later in life, learning creates a multitude of neural connections that will help people have better problem solving skills later in life. it’s almost like working different muscles in your brain to make it stronger.

I’m on dad’s side. She and her brother are both being raised in an incredible environment with lots of education. She could be a multitude of different occupations. Learn everything you can for the sake of using different parts of your brain. 🧠

Even if technology is great and you don’t need to calculate fractions yourself, your mind develops and has more endurance when you learn multiple different subjects. Once you learn to hone these skills into real life, it will be easier to navigate it.

I’m on her side I don’t understand why we learn things we will never use. But I do get the dads point he’s right we have no idea what we will do till we are doing it but sometimes we still don’t learn some teachers aren’t helpful

we will never use the things we learn in school (except for the basic grounds), but learning knew things and how to solve problems evolves our brain

I dont adore his answer, i told ny kids:Learning them helps your brain practice solving problems and thinking in different ways. It’s like a workout for your brain! And then sometimes we don’t realize what we’ll need in the future, so it’s good to learn lots of things and keep our options open..♥️
