my theory is: Sonic suffer from a very brutal death trying to save his friends. Once Sonic opens his eyes again and looked in the mirror he realizes that his soul was trapped in medal Sonic, but when he tries reaching out to his friends who are grieving nobody believes him due to his appearances and kept fighting against medal Sonic and pushing him away. When he tried reaching out to his Tails he discovered that Tails had kept Sonic's shoes in a box in the open onf his work desk, but once again Sonic was pushed away so he reached out to Team Dark. Shadow was deeply traumatized about Sonic's death since he witnessed another person dying once more, which he blames himself for not being fast enough and begin isolating himself from the outside world as his way of grieving. Shadow's pdst worsen and had restless nights, and for Rouge she tries her best to get Shadow to come outside more often but whne encountering Team Dark, Shadow couldn't even look at Medal Sonic in the eyes.
