This growing wave of support in the Black community for Brooke Hogan after the death of her father, Hulk Hogan, a man who has a well-documented history of racist remarks, is nice and all but ….is it necessary? No. Yes, Brooke distanced herself from him, and while that’s worth noting, I find it deeply concerning how quickly we uplift non-Black individuals while constantly overlooking our own. I see Black people begging for help with their business, health, and content every day -B, and although the algorithm may play a role, the algorithm has nothing to do with the number of Black peoole who scroll right past people that look like them. Just to create content to support people that don’t. And let’s not get it twisted, Im for humanity, but where we are as a people, this is worth pointing out. Because it’s this very thing that keeps us where we are as a people. This isn’t about cancel culture or bitterness. This is about patterns of cultural conditioning, where Black people are taught historically and socially that validation comes through proximity to whiteness. It’s why we’ll rally around white-owned brands, influencers, and stories before we’ll consistently pour into Black-owned businesses or creators. Black identity has often been formed in reaction to whiteness, not in celebration of itself. Just as we are seeing today. Let’s celebrate a racist death by embracing the daughter that stood against him. We chase visibility through their platforms, feel heard when they acknowledge us, and deem something more credible when it’s white-endorsed. Because who cares a racist white man is dead. Racist die everyday. Just like Black peoole are struggling everyday to get the same support as others from the very same people that look like them. We won’t move ahead in this country until we as a people see our own as worthy and enoug to show up for ourselves because we know more than likely nobody else is. And that’s why we stay behind.
