this is why preservation and actually seeing stuff like this is important I've seen a lot of stone art thats in Britain growing up and you can see imperfections chisel marks in some big projects there's hidden jokes or mistakes placed in the hardest place to see like the rafters

Our ancient ancestors lived and often died by their craft. The artisans who created those carvings had been practicing their craft since childhood, and it was a tradition passed down through their families. Just because modern people may not know how to carve like they did, it doesn't mean our ancestors lacked the skills.
