@Marita Gutashvili: On August 3, 2023, I tragically lost 9 members of my family due to a catastrophic disaster in the Upper Racha Region of Georgia. At that time, I was residing in and managing a hotel at the Shovi Resort, which was frequented by my entire family. Prior to 2023, there had been noticeable changes in the glacier, occurring every three years (2017, 2020, and 2023). Two of these instances served as strong indicators that something dire was about to happen. However, in my country, neither the local nor the central government has demonstrated a willingness to assist local residents in overcoming such severe challenges. In 2020, following the massive floods in the Racha region, which were caused by changes in the “Buba glacier,” the government failed to take any preventive measures to avert such devastating disasters. This unprofessional and indifferent attitude culminated in the tragic events of 2023, when 33 people were buried alive in an active tourist area. It took an extended period to rescue the survivors. Among the 33 victims were nine members of my family: my sister, brother, aunt with two cousins, and one cousin with three young children. I am now left alone, burdened with immense responsibility and profound grief. The pain is almost unbearable. To those who have lost their homes in Switzerland, please remember that even worse tragedies can occur in the world. Unlike you, I have not only lost my home but also my entire family and my entire life. Sorry for your loss I wish you good health and strength of spirit.🙏
