Curiosity piqued, I gently picked up the delicate creature, known among local gardeners as the Scarlet Wanderer (Peregrinus rubeflorus). Initially resembling a tightly closed peony bud, it smoothly unfolded its vivid crimson petals, revealing an intricately layered bloom within moments. As I admired this brief spectacle, the petals swiftly folded inward again, encapsulating its insectoid form completely. Placing it back onto the mossy ground, the creature, seemingly undisturbed, quickly scurried away, returning to its daily explorations.
