Gallad :
Sufism (Tasawwuf) is an essential aspect found in all religions. A religion remains truly alive as long as it retains its Sufi essence; it declines when that essence is lost. Islam itself spread and flourished in this very way, through its spiritual core and the religious traditions of the diverse peoples across the lands it reached.
Islamic Sufism has always been present. For example, even before Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) received revelation, he would retreat in devotion to his Lord in the Cave of Hira on Mount Qār. The people of Makkah would even say: "Muhammad is deeply in love with his Lord" (إن محمداً عشق ربه). 😊
It’s worth noting, however, that with the decline of intellectual Sufism, superstitious stories and practices became widespread. In later times, the original Sufi philosophy, rooted in divine unity, weakened and became overshadowed by practices like excessive tomb veneration and seeking blessings from saints, which have no true basis.
The intellectual and poetic strength of Islamic Sufism lies in the contributions of its great figures, such as Ibn Arabi, Rumi, Al-Sinai, Attar, Iqbal, and many other luminaries.
