When I watch the movie i had the same feeling about this being an allegory to SA, but I think it's an unintended one because it's an MCU film and later in the movie it's clearly stated that his dad only beat him.

I thought I was the only one who noticed it. And for those who have said that Valentina was referring to the times she ended up in the hospital due to domestic abuse... being hit is bad, but Bob doesn't look scared, he looks embarrassed when he almost heard THAT

When I saw his reaction I automatically thought of that. And his answer that she couldn't have known that...that makes sense, she could have known about the beatings but not about the second one. I think this may be an over interpretation but in my opinion, given how the scene was played, his reaction, there is a lot to suggest that it was also about SA.

This is also immediately what I assumed when I watched this scene. It’s a marvel movie so they can’t explicitly portray smth that triggering but I think they implied it emotionally so that people would understand implicitly that that’s why Bob is suffering so much

ehhhh...we see his dad actually @buse him at the end, since childhood. I don't think there was any SA. We know how much trauma though he has, purely because of how scared Bob is of his Dad when he yelled. Otherwise Val would say something about his abuse dad, then his jail time, then his mother, then hint something about his dad maybe SA'ing him, proceeding Bob to cut her off. this just sounds like a stretch.

Oh I know where you're coming from, bc it's so hinted in this scene. Actually the MCU gave him a bigger backstory than the comics. In Comics it doesn't even hint into this direction at all. I liked the MCU way on it, bc it gave his character way more depth and an understanding how and why he ended like that.

I completely agree. And in his shame room with Yelena, while she was perceived as a safe person to him which could explain how mild his reaction was then, it's such a stark contrast to how he reacts here vs Yelena finding out about his dad being abusive towards him and his mother. This is a reaction of shame, where with Yelena it's indifference.

That was the undertone I picked up on too. The intensity of his reaction and how shameful he seemed was a huge red flag. He didn’t react like that to anything else she said so it had to have been something awful :(
