The Argonians are children of the Hist trees, and the Hist trees are so old that they predate common reality. Like, they predate Tamriel and all the other continents, hell they kinda predate Mundus. They're from a different dimension that survived essentially the Elder Scrolls version of the War in Heaven when reality had 12 dimensions total. Man and Mer didn't even exist yet, they existed as a single common ancestor called the Elnohfey.

if I remember correctly there were winged argonians that disappeared from Tamriel because they raided oblivion and fought so far into the plans that when they cut off the portals into black marsh they were left behind

It’s actually a little crazier, so the trees forsaw the invasion and called the argonians back before it even started, had them stockpile weapons and armor, and even transformed some making genetically modified super soldiers, they beat the invasion and started counter invading oblivion the the point that Dagon closed the portals there himself, they were stronger after the oblivion crisis to the point they declared independence from the empire and made a independent country
