@justinveenema: Faith in Humanity Restored 💛 I met Jessica and her blind pup, Emma, in Vancouver this weekend. Emma is a 1.5 year old staffy mix who was born without sight. She had congenital eye disease — one and a half eyes that didn’t work, but caused her pain. So when she was spayed, they removed them both. “This is her world,” Jessica said. “She doesn’t know anything different.” Emma’s hearing is sharp, but her sense of smell? Not so much. Her snack of choice is banana + peanut butter (so she has good taste). Jessica said having a blind dog isn’t easy, but it’s totally worthwhile. The trickiest part is that Emma has zero fear. “She’s busy,” Jessica told me. “And she doesn’t slow down.” She jumps off rocks, walks toward ledges, and plunges into water without hesitation. If Jessica’s not constantly guiding her, Emma finds herself in chaotic little situations. I watched as Emma tried to find Jessica. I watched her tail wag when she did. And I watched her lift her chin proudly for the camera — her signature pose. She may not see, but Emma feels everything.
