Yes, the witch trials in England and Scotland were the same. The trials happened concurrently with the Enclosures Act. Until this time, most towns and villages were divided into small packets of land that ppl owned and farmed themselves, with a communal 'Common land' that everyone in a village could use to graze animals, collect firewood and for itinerant workers/merchants to camp on. Women were often responsible for the management of this common land for the good of all. As world trade began to expand as a result of European colonialism, British aristocracy saw the opportunity to provide wool and other trade goods such as wheat to these new markets. But this needed land. So the largest landowners/aristocracy designed the Enclosures Act to enable a land grab of places that had been managed for generations by women, and small scale farmers. Colonialism started on the British ppl first.
