In the past when a citizen married an immigrant in the US, the immigrant would have to go back to their home country and wait for their appointment in their country. They would later get approved and they would be able to come back with a green card. I believe this is happening again. I speak based on experience, my husband had to go back to Juarez and a year later he got his green card.
