It’s common for parents to lean toward a later bedtime after the newborn stage — often to fit around work schedules, family dinners, or simply to enjoy a few more cuddly moments. ❤️ . But here’s the truth: a later bedtime benefits you more than it benefits your baby. After the newborn stage (around 4 months onward), babies thrive with an earlier bedtime — ideally between 7:00–8:00 PM. Here’s why: 🌙 Babies achieve their deepest, most restorative sleep in the first half of the night. When bedtime gets pushed too late, they miss out on the highest quality sleep their growing bodies and brains need. . 🌙 Melatonin — the hormone that makes us feel sleepy — naturally rises in the early evening. This rise in melatonin, paired with your baby’s natural “sleep pressure” (their biological need to sleep after a period of wakefulness), creates the perfect window to fall asleep more easily and stay asleep longer. . When we miss this natural window and push bedtime too late, babies often become overtired — and ironically, that can make it harder for them to settle, stay asleep, and sleep soundly through the night. 😴 . So while a later bedtime might feel more convenient in the moment, setting an earlier, consistent bedtime is one of the biggest gifts you can give your baby (and your future evenings too 💛). .
