A Sneak Peak At My New 45 Litre (12 US Gallon) Filterless Community Tank! Here’s a sneak peek at my brand-new low-tech, filterless community aquarium! 🌿 This tank is 45 liters (around 12 gallons) and just one week old, so the plants are still settling in and starting to find their balance. Right now it’s not ready for fish since toxin levels need more time to stabilize, but the progress so far is looking very promising. I’m taking things slow with this build to let nature do the hard work. For the substrate, I used Fluval Stratum as the main base, with a small sand patch in one corner. That sand area isn’t just for looks—it’s designed with my future stocking plans in mind. I’m hoping to keep pygmy corydoras, ember tetras, neocaridina shrimp, nerite snails, and maybe even a pair of sparkling gourami. The corydoras in particular will really appreciate having a soft sandy area where they can forage and dig around naturally. Lighting is handled by the new Seaoura SR659, and I have to say it’s already impressing me. The output is strong and even, and it’s bringing out some gorgeous red tones in my Rotala Blood Red, even in this early stage. To keep conditions stable, I’ve added a Fluval T-series heater and a small USB water pump to provide just enough circulation without overwhelming the plants or stressing out future livestock. As for the plants, I’ve gone with a mix of submerged species and emergent plants along the rim. The submerged plants should take root over the next few weeks and help stabilize nutrients, while the emergent plants will grow in above the water line and act as a natural filter, pulling excess nutrients out of the tank. Together, they should keep the water parameters more stable and reduce the need for frequent maintenance—exactly what I want in a low-tech, filterless setup. #aquarium #fishtank #fishkeeping #plantedtank #plantedaquarium #tropicalfish
