Remember: If it sounds good, it sounds good. Producers who shame other producers for using samples are so closed minded. The goal is to make something that people like to listen to, not to impress your producer friends.

Can someone please explain what the “rules” are when it comes to producing and using samples? Like do they need to be altered a certain amount? Do most sounds need to all be from personal sound design? New producer here would love some insight!

I agree with what’s been said, sampling is obviously part of the creative process. But at this level, when it’s your main activity, you have every opportunity to truly reinterpret the sample. That’s also a valuable learning exercise.
