This is really so simple. It’s the correct call all day. For everyone saying “where was he supposed to go” you just obviously don’t know baseball past little league or your couch. EVERY player is taught not to do this. You slide past the catcher no matter WHERE he is on his non glove side and tag the plate with your hand - and get the safe call no matter what because yes it’s obstruction so you’re safe regardless. Malicious contact trumps all other violations just for this reason - to NEVER incentivize doing this and getting someone hurt over a game 99% of them are never going to play in real life.

Come on, anyone who thinks the umpires are wrong. In this situation, just don't follow the rules of baseball. Maybe 50 years ago, that's fine , but not in today's game. The guy didn't even try and slide his intent. Was to knock the catcher over? And he did ..he made no attempt to touch the plate In that whole situation, until after he leveled the catcher. It's not the way it works anymore

In today’s game, that’s catchers interference. The ball did not lead the catcher into base path. And how’s he supposed to slide when the catcher is in front of the plate? Wrong very wrong call

If you slow it down you can see contact was made in front of the plate. If the runner had committed to slide at the plate instead of bracing for impact in front of the plate he’d have been safe and very little contact would have occurred

Great call!! Super late “slide” and straight into the catcher. A reasonable baserunner would have started their slide earlier and try to avoid the tag by sliding away from the catcher and tag home plate. Great call!
