I wish he would get over Rose Fucking Tyler. His super-special OC-do-not-steal from 20 fucking years ago that he can't just get the hell over. I don't mind old villains, references to the past, using the decades of lore, if they didn't insist on shitting all over it (Chibnall) or constantly wasting it so he can bring back is Very Special Characters (RTD).

rtd’s obsession with blonde companions needs to be discussed not only has rose haunted the narrative every season he’s ever ran but ruby sunday got an entire doctor-lite episode and all the action in the finale (meanwhile he’s made two poc companions who work in medicined and ignored both of them, and im positive if he could have gotten rose back for the season 3 finale he would have)

It’s just way too much all at once and nothing has enough time to breathe. It feels like everything is chucked at the wall and barely anything sticks. There were moments where the Rani was genuinely growing on me, but she barely had an impact on the plot and there was so much nonsense going on at the same time.

RTD1 was actually a deliberate rollout of the biggest and most important toys in the DW toybox to reintroduce it to a new audience. RTD2 seems to be mad about the toys that Moffat and Chibnall didn't bring back.

literally every single RTD1 season finale was a classic villan. Which is the same for this new era the standalone episodes are mostly new villains without much past reference. There are just less episodes

Fun fact, the first villain we see with the 9th Doctor is the same villain that we see with the 3rd Doctor with his first episode! They both have to deal with Nestene consciousness and mannequins 🖤

season 2 villains: The Daleks, season 2: Cybermen, season 3: the master, season 4: the Daleks/davros, the specials: the time lords. he's always brought back big villains for the end of the arc, it's just not very well this time

I feel like this is kinda the natural conclusion of Dr who getting a big budget. The small budget forced the writers to be creative since they couldn’t do big cgi frequently and couldn’t keep big actors around for multiple episodes

The flashbacks were fine in The Giggle bc the Toymakers story is a lost episode and viewers had a right to be shown that it did indeed happen. Now all they're doing is flashbacks and it's like "dude, we know. We were there. Our kids are there. Are parents were there. WE KNOW!!"

yeeeah I loved 15 but he definitely got done dirty in my opinion, so few episodes only to be railroaded into a nostalgia bait regeneration. And BOY was everything surrounding Ruby anticlimactic.

I think a bit of the nostalgia-bait is on the executives. I also think some of the weird writing directions were because of the cut down season run. RTD is still very responsible, however. It’s honestly really sad because I was so excited for this revival.
