I can say for sure, there is no biradri system in kpk (apart from mardan, swabi, charsadda) . We have qabila system but it has nothing to do with ranks. Every pashtun is equal. Even a fruit vendor is as powerful as landlord

This is a massively common thing in India as well, it’s just caste system. Another point to remind people that India and Pakistan are artificially created nations with many different cultures but common cultural ground.

China had very similar systems for thousands of years, called 门阀、宗族、士族 - very powerful entrenched reactionary political forces that manifested throughout Chinese history. It was heavily weakened after the communist revolution and finally completely (and painfully) dismantled after the cultural revolution. I'd say it is a major contributing factor to China's rapid modernization since then.

People saying it's a caste system, need to know that a caste has defined superiority over another. Whereas as in baradari there's no concept of superiority. It's more like a much larger family system as one would ought to support their family members
