I love my psychiatrist, but I really do not think he is assessing me with this level of depth or intentionality…but I could be wrong! Maybe he did at the beginning and now he just knows me 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

Great explanation. Unfortunately I work at county and our population is 80% unhoused and/or SUD disorders so they never get that opportunity to demonstrate better judgement because it's constant survival mode.

why do you assess this in psychiatric patients? I've never done that so far

I love how divergent your examples are in this. they support people who don't have commonplace perspectives, and people with disruptive perspectives. thank you again for sharing!

This is the best insight judgment video ever. They seem so similar but this really helps distinguish them

This is literally the only time I’ve ever been presented Kohlberg’s theory as something that can be clinically useful. Thanks for the insight!

How do you assess someone’s judgement when they exhibit behaviors of self destruction but also those of higher levels of judgement? Ex: Timmy has a desire to volunteer and does so at his grandmas church because he feels good from it but also racks up tons of debt on credit cards and surrounds himself with dangerous people. He does good with the middle tiers but bad with the bottom tiers.

Keeping the money. Immoral, sure. Bad judgement though, maybe. 🤔

You touch on an example of how the levels might be reordered in the discussion of protest, but it also prompted the question: how does the metric of avoiding punishment (in this case from law enforcement) intersect w/ being already vulnerable to policing and violence more generally (whether b/c of racialization, class, disability, etc.)?

Genuinely an exceptional video. I really hope there are longer episodes about a wide spectrum as this is just like nothing I’ve never seen before

What if they verbalize the right answer, but then say “I know what I should do but I choose not to”?

I have been told by many over the years, both clinical professionals and friends/family, that I have great internal “awareness” - I think what you’re describing as insight. I find that so interesting bc I wonder if their impression is off OR if my assumption that insight should lead to better mental health solutions/outcomes than I experience is a faulty assumption. Or maybe my insight is leading me to better outcomes than I appreciate/recognize. Or maybe the insight is great, but what I could improve is the judgement piece, the navigation of the uncertainty….or maybe it’s a little bit of all of the above….🤔
