Hospitality doesn’t pay overtime, we work hard, we work long hours, make your coffee at home and let us go home to our homes we can barely live in because we have to be in work all the time to afford them.

This functions on the assumption that everyone is a decent person, which is unfortunately not the case. Plenty of insufferable people have no issue coming in 5 minutes before closing and feeling super offended when they’re asked to leave

I use a similar technique to get people to finish their conversations with me at work. I stand up. Always guaranteed to get the person to walk away. This is the only time management tip I ever remembered because it was the best

I went into Costa for a coffee at 4.50pm they refused to serve me as they was closing at 5pm! it was a take away coffee I requested 👀 shame!!!!!

I worked for Costa and only got paid until closing time. we had to do things before we closed or we would be working unpaid

I work in a chain coffee shop unfortunately and we HAVE to do things for close before it’s closed, there’s two of us and we’re given half an hour… no one is staying there an extra hour snd then that hour gets deducted off our payslip, leaving that job in two weeks THANK GOD

Almost every company now doesn’t pay their employees the minute the business closes. But expect the employees to close the business so this leads them to making sure they are shutting down 20-30 minutes before closing

I have never experienced this phenomenon. People have come in after we’re closed and asked for us to make them something. I’m still waiting for something from him that isn’t pure opinion.

Guess it’s just me sitting there at 6:20pm in the dark, all the chairs including the one opposite me upturned on the table and the barista mopping my feet while I nonchalantly sip my latte.

“Tricks” lmao I worked in a Costa and it is not a coffee shop thing, it’s a staff thing. We wanted to go home lol We would even put their coffee’s in a takeaway cup so they knew no to get too comfy 😂😂

the staff that moan about having customers is madness. them kind of people aren't there for anything than a wage and I bet they'd think differently if chains like Costa treated staff better and rewarded them for their hard work

The owner needs to pay for clean up time then ,why should staff stay for free? I worked in Boots and we got paid 15 mins after closing to cash up and lock up, it usually took 30 mins 🙄 because we couldn't tell customers to leave at closing time.
