Yes. You hit the nail on the head. Freedom is fragile. It is never more than one generation away from extinction and rights are worthy of being preserved.

Nothing you said was wrong, but you still don’t have the clear target. It is about liberty (individual freedoms) we value the ability to have as much liberty as possible and want to protect that. It is not we are unwilling to give up some as you kind of said, it is that we almost always treat it as a last or near last resort.

Governments naturally encroach on liberties, once they gain power they never let it go. In the UK those “assumed rights” are not protected very well. People are being jailed for social media posts.

We have the opposite relationship with our government and civil rights that you do. In the United States under our Constitution, the people are sovereign, and the government is bound to protect our rights. In Europe, the government is sovereign and gives you rights. Natural Rights Theory confuses Europeans.

I know I'm late to the party here, but I just wanted to add. It's not just a hill we're willing to die on. It's a hill we're willing to take others with us on.

thats why we fight so hard thats why some people are willing to kill to uphold their rights. the bill of rights isnt for the government to use against We the People. it's for Wethe People to use against the government. we will fight and die on that hill because it's the only hill that truly matters

“Certain rights feel assumed” yeah that’s why your governments routinely continue to run roughshod over you and don’t even feel the need to hide it, at least the American government tries to hide when they are being evil

What many Europeans don't get is that we believe our rights are not granted to us by the constitution but by birth and the constitution exists to ensure our rights aren't curbed by the government.

Perfectly said Sir. We don’t give anything up without a fight especially our rights. No Government regardless of its political foundation can be trusted

The U.S. Constitution doesn’t give us rights—it reminds the government that our God-given rights are off-limits to interference.

We in America define our freedom, in most other countries the government defines what freedom is. We are more than free we are liberated and self determined

The US Constitution is written to ensure our God given rights are never infringed upon them. Other than that great job

You really do get it. Keep in mind we are a country born of rebellion and distrust of government. This sets us apart. Our constitution does not grant us rights, it restrains government from infringing on rights.
