as always! We are aligned on this. the Teacher's job gets so much better and, honestly, easier when we are flexible and give grace and agency to our students and ourselves

I would love to get your opinion on something. My 8th grader had a teacher this year that had a policy that all make up work was due the day you returned to school. This led to my kid staying home an extra day each time to do the work once he was feeling better. It seemed unreasonable to me to expect the student to do the work while home sick. But other friends think it’s getting them ready for the real world.

Thank you so much, always, for sharing this important wisdom. I hope all your students learn to internalize these concepts.
These are not just things teachers learn. many of these same things apply to numerous jobs.
Any job you want respect in requires being respectful to the others that are there.
We all learn more from failure than success, the key is to learn to accept failure as a part of life and to not let failure get you down and prevent you from getting back up and also not to let multiple failures make you feel stupid and scare you into avoiding difficulty.
Being less than perfect makes everyone more approachable, particularly if they embrace their imperfections as a part of being a human being.
Taking care of yourself is important for taking care of any job. If you burn out, you can't effectively do any job.
