Not a betrayal!
Jesus needed to be “betrayed,“ and Judas was the only one he trusted to do what needed to be done.
Judas should be seen as the ultimate and greatest disciple.

FYI The guy holding the lamp is Carvaggio (self portrait) he holds the lamp like a paint brush. This painting is on permanent display at the National Galley of Ireland In Dublin. Probably the best piece of Baric art ever painted.

What I think is off putting is that the Roman soldiers have actually late medieval armor, is he applying that detrayal to Christ is something that people have done, do and keep doing through out history and it’s something rational through every time period ? Or do you believe it’s just something minor

Are those Jesus’s hands at the bottom? Are they holding on to Judus?

It still absolutely baffles me that these are from someone's mind (and reference paintings etc) but is a wholly unique piece that it's proportionally correct and evokes emotions greater than real life sometimes, for hundreds, thousands of years.

The “story” doesn’t play out if Judas doesn’t act as he did

this is the true definition that god created us,the enlightenment needed to create such art can only come from divine power! but unfortunately there is also the opposite face of the coin in us
