This! I like wearing makeup because it makes me feel pretty, but I can also acknowledge that the reason it makes me feel pretty is because of patriarchal influence. Patriarchal structures often overlap into our personal lives, in ways that are so ingrained in us that we don’t realize it’s there. It’s not just about doing it for men, it’s the subtle ways we are influenced from day 1 to “better” ourselves in general. Is it a coincidence that the majority of people wearing makeup are women?

I get that makeup is deep rooted into society for the beauty standards. But some people use it as an art of expression. I love doing makeup especially creative looks and tbf most of the time the more creative looks get hate from others but I don’t care as I do it for me

What’s wrong with doing makeup for yourself? I’m a man and I love doing makeup for myself even when no one will see. Makeup can enjoyed for the validation you receive yes but a lot of people wear it despite others, I get criticised for my makeup and a lot of women do too, especially when their makeup is not “natural” enough

I feel like people purposely miss the point when someone criticises the way women feel like they HAVE to look pretty- by using makeup. No it’s not our fault. But understand your actions aren’t made in a vaccume. And when so many women do it- maybe start to think about WHY.

The amount of people in the comments fighting for their dear life that they wear makeup for themselves need to go back to feminism 101, if u cannot understand such a simple concept as that women's choices are influenced by the patriarchy and if u do makeup to cover your "flaws" or to feel "prettier" then you're 100% not doing it for yourself but because of societal pressure for women to look like porcelain dolls. I'm saying all of this as someone who wears tons of makeup btw. And no, wearing makeup doesn't make u any less of a feminist nor does it make u a misogynist, but refusing to accept the objective truth about the makeup/beauty industry makes u ignorant.
