go and watch his special he did with siskel "a disturbing trend at the movies" he describes the plot of the Howling so poorly it's as if he never watched it. to say nothing of all the other ridiculous points he made throughout that episode.

Everyone has hot takes not everyone is perfect. He’s mainly well-respected for how well he could articulate he was thinking to the casual person and how he could dissect films that the casual person maybe may not be that interested in. He’s an agent of simplicity and entertainment, not objective critical analysis. Judging him for having bad takes doesn’t really take away from what he’s trying to do.

Very well said, Jacob. Another of his reviews that confuses me is his take on The Land Before Time where he wanted the characters to be less childlike and to spend more time on natural history because he thought kids enjoyed dinosaurs more when they felt a level of alienation from them. As a lifelong fan of that movie and its characters, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Further compounding the idea that he didn’t watch the movie or pay attention to any of its themes, he ends his review by saying he finds it odd that Littlefoot and his friends passed down their story for generations when Littlefoot is described as the last of his kind. If he’d watched the movie, perhaps he’d know that Littlefoot was described as his herd’s last hope for the future since he was the only child, not the last of his species as a whole.
