Yes cheaters are looking to escape internal feelings of pain/shame, & acting out to feel “good” in a version of themselves that they get from the other person they’re cheating with. The other person is in a way like a drug for them to get some satisfaction, even tho it’s unhealthy & they never truly are fulfilled bec they aren’t addressing the root of their issue.

my cheating ex did that where he used my anxious attachment to justify his cheating. i called him because he told me he was at the “hospital” at midnight for a headache and i was sussed out with the circumstances so i called him. turns out he was in fact at another dudes apartment and he rushed out to answer my call, but i believed his made up story still. the next day hes telling his friends, “my bf is so crazy like he called me thinking i was cheating. like what i was cheating with the nurses at the hospital??” … when they had no idea i even called him. the internal and external justifications they make are insane

Me and my ex were rocky during our last month together and she emotionally cheated with her coworker who I had met and had a bf of 3 yrs. They kissed (I didn’t know until later ) , we broke up , they planned and moved in together 3 months later . I’m still going through it, it hurts ☹️💔 What you said , sounds like what she was probably going through , I can’t understand it because I’ve never done that . 💔

I had a similar experience. I didn’t even know it was emotional cheating until a while later. I felt so guilty when I realized, and now I do everything in my power to avoid that slippery slope with my new partner

I also think that some people seek others who have a partner to feel better than. Bc that’s what happened with mine. The girl told him that she had got with a guy to leave his gf for her. So she was a repeat affair partner

Wouldn’t this just be emotional cheating anyways? Additionally, I do not think you loved your boyfriend, I do not think you actually respected your boyfriend at the time - as you cite guilt and self-betrayal as being the catalyst for not going through with it. Cheating is often also looked at as a singular event, but I would consider everything in the run up to that moment in the library as a internal concession towards cheating. Just my two cents
