@nbcbayarea: As a fast-moving fire headed toward San Jose's largest homeless encampment, the first to respond were some of encampment's own residents. #news #SanJose #BayArea
can we stop finding reasons to put these people down!? obviously not a minace to society but a help even in unfortunate conditions

wait so he has experience/training to fight fires and used that knowledge to help himself and his community while the fire truck came and this is how they responded? shame.

So disappointed in those firefighters. From their response it’s almost like they wanted the fire to destroy their camp.

Where are people to live in this godforsaken expensive place? The only godsend is the nice weather of CA. We need help for mental illness and affordable economy.

Yeah it was dangerous… all I can hear is people never having to have faced homelessness. He was willing to give of himself for others.

But he had the training around fire saftey just not the right tool, if the fire was that big why did it take so long for the fire department to get there? This feels like the city was trying to chase them out, expecially with a freaking sweep notice just a few days later. Freaking evil things the city is willing to do rather then help our unhoused community.

But when the fires were happening in LA and neighbors were staying to help, it was heroic but the homeless man who was paid pennies to fight fires in prison is reprimanded.

good thinking on him, but untrained people get hurt all the time doing stuff like that. The last thing they want is people thinking it's ok to do that, not call the fire dept, they get hurt and the fire grows crazy.

interesting when the Tubbs fire raged through Santa Rosa the owner of safari west was seen as a hero for staying on his property and doing everything possible for his animals

I work very near here. it was odd to all of us that they were "letting it burn" without fire fighters for SO LONG. It was free burning for over half an hour without trucks responding.
